Policies and Procedures Manual: Course Worker Responsibilities

COURSE WORKER GUIDELINES

BE ALERT!
THERE ARE USUALLY TWO CARS ON THE COURSE AT ONCE.

NEVER TURN YOUR BACK TO A MOVING VEHICLE!
NEVER SIT DOWN WHEN CARS ARE ON THE COURSE!!

Course Worker responsibilities include:

  1. One worker at each worker station should be holding the RED FLAG at all times, ready to use it to flag down an oncoming vehicle. Another worker should have the radio in hand and turned on! at all times, to call in cone penalties in as timely a manner as possible.

  2. If spectators, pets, etc, should inadvertently enter a hazardous area while a car is on the course, RED FLAG the oncoming car first, then explain to the spectators where to watch from. Don't take any chances. If there is ever any doubt about safety, RED FLAG the competitor. Vehicles which are flagged down will get a re-run, unless they had already been called "Off-Course".

  3. If a car is lost on the course or has spun out, be prepared to RED FLAG competitors to prevent a collision.

  4. If a competitor is RED FLAGGED, instruct the driver to proceed carefully and directly back to the staging area without following the remainder of the course, or to complete the remainder of the course at a low speed if there is not another vehicle behind them. If appropriate, the competitor will receive a re-run (be sure to call in the entire incident to Timing & Scoring!).

  5. Report pylons knocked down or pushed out of the box. Call into Timing & Scoring the following information and wait for a confirmation:

    1. worker station number,

    2. the car number and class, and

    3. the number of pylons downed.

  6. Report a competitor that misses a gate as a "DNF" or "Off-Course". Call into Timing & Scoring the following information and wait for a confirmation:

    1. worker station number,

    2. the car number and class, and

    3. the reason for the DNF.

  7. Watch out for competitors on the track at all times, especially when replacing pylons on the course.

  8. Radios:

  9. Repeat any radio calls as necessary until acknowledgment is obtained.

  10. Take good care of the radios as they cost money to replace, which will raise entry fees.

  11. Pylon Penalties: All course pylon placements will be marked with temporary or permanent markings. Competitors will be assessed a penalty for each pylon that is displaced as per Section 7.9 of the SOLO II rulebook.
